Tension mounts in Jammu’s Bhaderwah; curfew imposed, security forces deployed

Amid the simmering tension in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, a curfew has been imposed and internet services have also been suspended in the area. The development comes after a video surfaced on social media on Thursday in which inflammatory speeches were allegedly made, sparking tensions in the region.

To avoid any conflict between the Bhaderwah communities over the alleged video, a heavy security force was deployed in the area. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are stationed in the area to prevent any incidents of violence. However, on Friday, amid the curfew imposed in the area, a group of protesters marched and threw rocks at CRPF security personnel. In an effort to disperse the crowd and prevent further scuffles, CRPF personnel fired 3 to 4 tear gas shells at the demonstrators.

It is relevant to mention here that the J&K police have already filed a complaint against the people responsible for making the inflammatory remarks in the video. “Action has been taken under the law. A case has been registered at Bhaderwah Police Station. Anyone who takes justice will not be spared,” the Jammu Police Media Center said in a statement. Notably, as a precautionary measure, a curfew was imposed and internet services were suspended in J&K’s Kishtwar and Ramban districts, they added.
