NIMASA partners with NITT to strengthen maritime safety

In a bid to enhance maritime safety, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria, on research and training aimed at enhancing safety and maritime security in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement from Deputy Director, Public Relations, NIMASA, Osagie Edward on Sunday.

According to the statement, NIMASA Director General Dr. Bashir Jamoh and his NITT counterpart Dr. Bayero Salih Farah during the signing of the documents in Zaria said that the MoU is based on research and training in order to improve the content and strengthen the quality assurance of the institute.

The statement further explained that the MoU follows previous agreements reached between the two agencies in their quest to further domesticate specialized training programs for maritime sector executives.

Jamoh, however, described the MoU as a mutually beneficial partnership, aimed at supporting NITT’s core mandate, while also being in line with his administration’s commitment to building the capacity of NIMASA personnel.

According to him, “The MoU aims to formalize and strengthen the existing relationship between NIMASA and NITT in terms of research, training and capacity development in general. We appreciate your visit to NIMASA some time ago and we are happy that a lot of progress has been made in terms of collaboration”
