John Wood loses fight to lift ban on oil insurance claims

By Silvia Martelli (June 10, 2022, 5:02 p.m. BST) – A Scottish multinational engineering firm lost its bid on Friday for permission to sue a group of insurers in Canada in a £250million lawsuit ( $311 million) related to a major oil pipeline spill.

The Court of Appeal said a lower court was correct in granting a 2021 injunction ending litigation brought in Alberta, Canada, by John Wood Group PLC and its Canadian subsidiary Wood Group Canada Inc. of a negligence suit.

The court agreed with the insurers, including AIG Europe SA, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE, QBE UK Ltd. and Zurich Insurance PLC…
